The Sign of Jonah and Millennial Day Theory

St. Augustine of Hippo

As most regular readers of this blog will already know, a post I had published immediately after the publication of the second edition of my book Unveiling the Apocalypse: The Final Passover of the Church in November 2016 went viral in the run-up to the Great American Solar Eclipse, after being plagiarised by Pastor Mark Biltz (see here). I used the core content of this material as supporting evidence of the central thesis presented in my book - i.e. that the prophetic vision of Pope Leo XIII can be used to interpret the unbinding of Satan for the "little while" described in the Apocalypse, which takes place at the end of the "thousand years":

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. (Rev 20:1-3)

I had noted that there was good reason to believe that the Great American Solar Eclipse was also related to the two solar eclipses which appeared over the site of ancient Nineveh in 1914 and 1999, which had bookended the 20th century. It is highly unusual for a total solar eclipse to occur over any single location during the course of just one century, since there is usually a wait of several centuries for such an event to recur. The fact that the site of ancient Nineveh was in the path of totality at these two crucial junctures in history - at the beginning of the First World War and on the eve of the turn of the millennium (which marked the Great Jubilee Year of the Incarnation), gives us serious pause for consideration.

The first of these Nineveh eclipses, at the beginning of World War One, had occurred on the feast day of Our Lady of Knock on Aug 21st, 1914 - an apparition which I also argued had announced the opening of the scroll sealed with seven seals by the Lamb of Revelation described in Rev 5. The opening of the seven seals begins with the release of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which I argue is also recapitulated in the period of the unbinding of Satan at the end of the Millennium in Rev 20. Both events share the theme of the release of evil spirits towards the end of the world, and they should be compared side-by-side as a theological diptych in order to draw out a fuller understanding of the symbolism involved.

I had noted that a solar eclipse occurring over the site of ancient Nineveh was the most likely explanation for the original meaning behind the "sign of Jonah" - the historical Bur Sagale Eclipse which had appeared over the site of ancient Nineveh during the ministry of the Prophet Jonah. This event is thought by some theologians to be the primary cause of the repentance of the Ninevites, which is left unexplained in the Book of Jonah itself.

In my book, I argue that the mysterious "sign of Jonah" mentioned by Christ is one of the principle signs that marks the period of the unbinding of Satan at the end of the Millennium described in Rev 20. This was primarily because the sign of Jonah is mentioned in the immediate context of the "binding of the strong man" in Matt 12 - a passage which St. Augustine of Hippo had linked to the period of the unbinding of Satan described in Rev 20 while he was formulating his amilliennial view of the Apocalypse.

In turn, I also argue that the element of the "sign of Jonah" concerning the three days the prophet is said to have spent in the "belly of the great fish" provides an interpretive key to the "millennial day" theory discussed by the Early Church Fathers. Each of the days represented in the Sign of Jonah also represents a thousand years, indicating there is to be a separate division of a period of three thousand years to be made in the concept of the "Great Week" discussed by the Early Church Fathers. So the "sign of Jonah" factors into the symbolism of the prophetic understanding of the Sabbath Millennium, which St. Augustine had proposed would usher in the period of the unbinding of Satan at the end of the thousand years described in Rev 20:

The Lord Jesus Christ Himself says, No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man — meaning by the strong man the devil, because he had power to take captive the human race; and meaning by his goods which he was to take, those who had been held by the devil in various sins and iniquities, but were to become believers in Himself. It was then for the binding of this strong one that the apostle saw in the Apocalypse an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the abyss, and a chain in his hand. And he laid hold, he says, on the dragon, that old serpent, which is called the devil and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,— that is, bridled and restrained his power so that he could not seduce and gain possession of those who were to be freed. Now the thousand years may be understood in two ways, so far as occurs to me: either because these things happen in the sixth thousand of years or sixth millennium (the latter part of which is now passing), as if during the sixth day, which is to be followed by a Sabbath which has no evening, the endless rest of the saints, so that, speaking of a part under the name of the whole, he calls the last part of the millennium — the part, that is, which had yet to expire before the end of the world — a thousand years; or he used the thousand years as an equivalent for the whole duration of this world, employing the number of perfection to mark the fullness of time....

The devil, then, is bound and shut up in the abyss that he may not seduce the nations from which the Church is gathered, and which he formerly seduced before the Church existed. For it is not said that he should not seduce any man, but that he should not seduce the nations — meaning, no doubt, those among which the Church exists — till the thousand years should be fulfilled,— i.e., either what remains of the sixth day which consists of a thousand years, or all the years which are to elapse till the end of the world.

(St. Augustine of Hippo, City of God XX:7)

As the Catechism points out, Christ had compared the sign of Jonah with His own resurrection three days after His death on the Cross:

It is Jesus himself who on the last day will raise up those who have believed in him, who have eaten his body and drunk his blood. Already now in this present life he gives a sign and pledge of this by restoring some of the dead to life, announcing thereby his own Resurrection, though it was to be of another order. He speaks of this unique event as the "sign of Jonah," the sign of the temple: he announces that he will be put to death but rise thereafter on the third day… (CCC 994)

The Early Church Fathers had discussed the possibility that the biblical chronology pointed to a prophetic week of millennia, which they had widely concurred was of major prophetic importance. The Epistle of Barnabas was one of the earliest such works to use the "sexta-septamillennial tradition" to interpret the significance of the Millennium described in the Apocalypse:

Attend, my children, to the meaning of this expression, “He finished in six days.” This implieth that the Lord will finish all things in six thousand years, for a day is with Him a thousand years. And He Himself testifieth, saying, “Behold, to-day will be as a thousand years.” Therefore, my children, in six days, that is, in six thousand years, all things will be finished. “And He rested on the seventh day.” This meaneth: when His Son, coming [again], shall destroy the time of the wicked man, and judge the ungodly, and change the-sun, and the moon, and the stars, then shall He truly rest on the seventh day. Ye perceive how He speaks…I shall make a beginning of the eighth day, that is, a beginning of another world. (The Epistle of Barnabas Chap XV)

While some of the Early Church Fathers had proposed that Satan would be bound at the end of the six thousand year mark in the millennial day system (including the author of the Epistle of Barnabas himself), St. Augustine proposed that the binding of Satan had already occurred through the ministry of Christ, implying that it was the period of the unbinding of Satan that would take place at the end of the millennial week - as we can see from the above passage in City of God.

It has long been noted that there appears to be a division of this prophetic week of millennia into two separate sets - four millennial "days" leading up to the Advent of Christ, and then three other millennial "days" pointing towards the period of the unbinding of Satan before the restoration of the Church.

The kernel of the millennial day theory discussed by the Early Church Fathers can be found in Psalm 90:4 and 2 Pet 3:8: "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Some Protestant dispensationialists incorporate a further passage found in the Book of Hosea into the millennial day theory, in order to provide a bridging connection between the three days of the Sign of Jonah and the three days of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.

After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. (Hos 6:2)

During the approach of the turn of the third millennium, Protestant dispensationalists had typically used the above passage in order to suggest that the "first resurrection" of the dead would soon take place during the Second Coming of Christ. This understanding led to the view that Christ would return around the turn of the millennium in order to establish a thousand year reign on earth after the resurrection of the righteous dead, during which Satan would be bound for the duration of the Sabbath Millennium. Once we apply St. Augustine's view concerning the significance of the Sabbath Millennium to the millennial day theory, a significantly different scenario emerges.

St. Augustine had suggested that the Sabbath Millennium should be used to interpret the timing of the period of the unbinding of Satan at the end of the thousand years. For St. Augustine, Satan was already bound through the sacrificial death of Christ, and he would be until the period of his unbinding at the end of the Millennium of Rev 20. For St. Augustine, the "first resurrection" was the resurrection of the soul after baptism, so there was no need to posit two separate periods of resurrections in the Apocalypse, before and after the thousand years, as is forwarded by the dispensationalists. According to St. Augustine's amillennial view, there will only be one resurrection of the dead at the end of the world, just before the Last Judgment.

So the resurrection after three days being described in the Book of Hosea isn't necessarily limited to the general resurrection of the dead at the end of the world, as it could also point to the restoration of the Church after the period of Satan's unbinding, since St. Augustine held that the Devil would once again be spoiled after the period of his unbinding, in order to allow for the Gospel to be proclaimed to the ends of the earth before the Second Coming of Christ:

For in accordance with this true saying that order is observed — the strong one first bound, and then his goods spoiled; for the Church is so increased by the weak and strong from all nations far and near, that by its most robust faith in things divinely predicted and accomplished, it shall be able to spoil the goods of even the unbound devil. For as we must own that, when iniquity abounds, the love of many waxes cold, Matthew 24:12 and that those who have not been written in the book of life shall in large numbers yield to the severe and unprecedented persecutions and stratagems of the devil now loosed, so we cannot but think that not only those whom that time shall find sound in the faith, but also some who till then shall be without, shall become firm in the faith they have hitherto rejected and mighty to conquer the devil even though unbound, God's grace aiding them to understand the Scriptures, in which, among other things, there is foretold that very end which they themselves see to be arriving. And if this shall be so, his binding is to be spoken of as preceding, that there might follow a spoiling of him both bound and loosed; for it is of this it is said, Who shall enter into the house of the strong one to spoil his goods, unless he shall first have bound the strong one?
(St. Augustine, City of God XX:8)

I had previously identified the tumultuous events of the 20th century with the unbinding of Satan at the end of the Millennium described in Rev 20 with the famous prophetic vision of Pope Leo XIII. After experiencing a vision of a horde of demonic entities surrounding the city of Rome (reflecting the scene of the camp of the saints being surrounded by the forces of Satan at the end of the Millennium in Rev 20), Pope Leo XIII had composed the Prayer to St. Michael, which was said at the end of every low mass up until the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council. In my book, I argue that the beginning of this time period was most likely indicated by Pope Leo XIII himself, when he consecrated the entire human race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1899. He called this consecration "the greatest act of my pontificate".

The link between a 100 year time frame and the act of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was famously made by St. Margret Mary Alocoque. Exactly 100 years to the day after Christ had appeared to St. Margret Mary on 17th June, 1689, requesting the king of France to consecrate his country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Third Estate rose up against the French Monarchy during the Revolution, stripping the king of his legislative powers on 17th June, 1789. This 100 year period in relation to the consecration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was also alluded to by Sr. Lucia:

Make it known to My ministers, given that they follow the example of the King of France in delaying the execution of My command, they will follow him into misfortune. It is never too late to have recourse to Jesus and Mary.’ (Sr. Lucia, Fatima in Lucia’s Own Words, p199)

It is surely no coincidence that another solar eclipse took place over the site of ancient Nineveh on 11th August, 1999 - 100 years after Pope Leo XIII consecrated the entire world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This means that the "sign of Jonah" had once again appeared to delineate the boundaries of the "short time" given to Satan at the end of the "thousand years". The beginning of which was augured by the outbreak of the First World War, timed to coincide with yet another solar eclipse over Nineveh on 21st, August, 1914. The fact that the "three days" aspect of the sign of Jonah is so closely associated with the concept of the millennial day theory in Hosea 6:2 leads us to the conclusion that the period of revival on the "third day" described in this biblical passage is linked to the various prophecies of the restoration of the Church during the Second Pentecost, commonly described in the Middle Ages as the renovatio mundi.

In my book, I attempt to show how the chronology of the short time given to Satan can actually be broken down into several different components, just as the period of the Great Week is itself divided into two separate lots consisting of four thousand years and three thousand years. In his recently published book Pope Leo XIII and the Prayer to St. Michael, Catholic author and seminarian Kevin Symonds examines the history behind the composition of the Prayer to St. Michael. Here, Symonds presents a wealth of scholarly evidence which attests to the authenticity of the vision of Pope Leo XIII. The author has obviously undertaken a painstaking amount of research for this book, and has translated several key documents which were previously unavailable in English. A fresh batch of information is brought to light here, including additional material emanating from the eyewitness testimony provided by Fr. Pechenino, and a homily on Pope Leo's vision attributed to Cardinal Pedro Segura y Saenz. Among these new findings we find the surprising fact that the earliest accounts of this vision records that Satan had actually requested a period of 50-60 years in which to destroy the Church, rather than in the later versions which assert a 75-100 timeframe.

While these documents which Symonds has unearthed are undoubtedly the earliest of their kind, and therefore possess the strongest claim to the full truth on this matter, we cannot fail to notice that this contradicts the common perception that Pope Leo's prophetic vision comprised the entirety of the 20th century, rather than just the first half of it. On the surface, this discovery appears to indicate that the period of Satan's greater power ended around the middle of the 20th century, at the close of the Second World War. Once again, such a scenario appears to contradict the actual sequence of historical events, and it is plainly evident that the true grip of Satan's greater power only seemed to really take hold in the latter half of the 20th century, after the events of the Second World War, when the Sexual Revolution which took place in the 1960's coincided with a massive decline in the Church - paving the way for current apostasy we are still enduring today.

Symonds is solely concerned with presenting the facts on this matter however, and his efforts are to be commended, as they allow us to see this prophecy from a completely fresh perspective. In my book, I argue that the 50-60 years requested by Satan during Pope Leo's vision was actually only Satan's first attempt to destroy the Church. The vision of Pope Leo XIII is directly based on the story of the trials of Job described in the Old Testament. If we compare this prophecy with its primary inspiration in the Book of Job, the exact manner in which Satan tests Job is comprised of two distinct parts. In his first attempt, Satan claims Job's children by tearing down the house of their elder brother. After Satan's first attempt fails, he then comes back to request another chance to destroy Job's faith, this time by afflicting the prophet himself with a plague of terrible sores:

And the LORD said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” And the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.” Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and struck Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took a piece of broken pottery with which to scrape himself while he sat in the ashes. Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
(Job 2:2-10)

So if the prophecy of Leo XIII corresponds with the trials of Job, it would follow that Satan would have returned before the throne of God to request another attempt to destroy the Church after the period of 50-60 years had elapsed, this time by changing tack - manifesting a plague of sores upon the Church itself, rather than the physical destruction of its children through war. Such an interpretation would explain why there was such a sudden swerve in the middle of the 20th century, going from the two world wars in the first half, to the modern apostasy in the second, which yielded not only great changes within the Church itself, but also saw the rise of the sexual abuse crisis, as well as the worldwide resurgence in occultism brought about by the New Age Movement.

We can find some evidence to support this hypothesis in Symonds' work, which contains the account of the vision of Pope Leo given by Cardinal Segura, who provides an additional detail about Satan's first request of 50-60 years, stating that "God granted that period and said they would talk again at a later time…" (Symonds, K. Pope Leo XIII and the Prayer to St. Michael, p50). This strongly suggests that the conversation between God and the Devil would be continued after the failure of the first attempt, just like during the trials of Job. And if Satan was granted a further period of 50-60 years during this second attempt, this would bring the total amount of time up to 100-120 years, which is much more in line with the more well known version of this prophecy, and this revised figure fits much better with the actual unfolding of historical events.

The beginning of this time period appears to have been signified by Pope Leo's consecration of the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1899, which was requested by Christ Himself when He appeared to Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart in 1898. This parallels the 100-year time period between the request to consecrate France to the Sacred Heart during Christ's apparition to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and the beginning of the French Revolution. This interpretation identifies a major turning point in the period of Satan's greater power (when blemishes would be manifested on the Church itself) at around the year 1960, which ties us into the significance of Our Lady's words concerning when the Third Secret should have been originally published.

Satan's request of 50-60 years to destroy the Church is also extremely similar to Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich's prophecy of the unbinding of Satan towards the end of the world, which she seen during a vision of the binding of Satan during Christ's Descent into Hell:

In the centre of Hell I saw a dark and horrible-looking abyss, and into this Lucifer was cast, after being first strongly secured with chains; thick clouds of sulphureous black smoke arose from its fearful depths, and enveloped his frightful form in the dismal folds, thus effectually concealing him from every beholder. God himself had decreed this; and I was likewise told, if I remember right, that he will be unchained for a time fifty or sixty years before the year of Christ 2000. The dates of many other events were pointed out to me which I do not now remember; but a certain number of demons are to be let loose much earlier than Lucifer, in order to tempt men, and to serve as instruments of the divine vengeance. I should think that some must be loosened even in the present day, and others will be set free in a short time.

Blessed Emmerich's vision can therefore be completely reconciled with the vision of Pope Leo XIII if we are to understand the period of the unbinding of Satan above as lasting for 50-60 years, starting at an unspecified date before the year 2000, rather than taking place 50-60 years before the turn of the millennium. This would mean that the 50-60 year timeframe mentioned by Blessed Emmerich is one and the same as the period of Satan's greater power, rather than placing the unleashing of the Devil at around the years 1940-1950. Interpreted in this way, the true meaning of Blessed Emmerich's words would be "he will be unchained for a time [period lasting] fifty or sixty years before the year of Christ 2000".

If the period of Satan's greater power consists of two separate lots, just like the trials of Job (bringing the total up to 100-120 years), then it is interesting to note the timing of the end of this time period points not only to the significance of the turn of the millennium, but also to the centenary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917. In The Final Passover of the Church, I hope to show how both the separate figures of 100 and 120 years are of equal importance in this regard, as the defeat of Satan at the end time is actually also comprised of two separate events. The first is the eschatological expulsion of the Devil from heaven, when Satan is cast down to the earth by the Archangel Michael. This event, which takes place at the end of the period of Satan's unbinding, is the ultimate fulfilment of the Prayer to St. Michael, and is marked on earth by the appearance of the signs in heaven - all of which occurred at the turn of the millennium, hinging on the solar eclipse over the site of ancient Nineveh in 1999 (which corresponds with the millennial day theory espoused in the Epistle of Barnabas).

Once he is cast down to the earth, the Devil becomes even more enraged at the Woman Adorned with the Sun, and spews a flood out from his mouth in a last attempt to completely sweep her away:

Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”

And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth.
(Rev 12:7-16)

If the appearance of the signs in heaven occurred at the turn of the millennium in order to herald when Satan has been cast down to earth, this means that this is the time period we are currently experiencing, and explains the significance of the 100-year element of this prophecy. However the flood sent out of the mouth of the Ancient Serpent is eventually swallowed up by the earth itself, which marks the second defeat suffered by Satan at the end of the period of his unbinding, and symbolises the restoration of the Church by the Two Witnesses during the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

If the period of the unbinding of Satan is actually broken down into two separate lots consisting of 100-120 years, demarking the timing of casting down of Satan to earth following his defeat in Heaven by the Archangel Michael, and the distinct period relating to the swallowing up of the flood which is sent forth from the mouth of the ancient Serpent after this event, then we have every reason to hope that the spoiling of the unbound Devil which St. Augustine expected to take place at the end of the short time of Satan is rapidly drawing near.

It is perhaps no coincidence that the story of Noah's flood is similarly related to a 120 year time period. After the description of the fallen angels/Watchers sinning by engaging in sexual relations with human females given in the Book of Genesis, God said He would destroy the world by the Great Flood in 120 years as a consequence of this abomination:

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” (Gen 6:1-3)

So Noah similarly had a period of 120 years between a warning being given and the timing of the flood, which parallels the swallowing up of the flood poured out from the mouth of the Dragon in Rev 12. It is again no coincidence that Noah's Ark is traditionally held to have settled on Mount Ararat in Armenia after the occurrence of the flood, since the Armenian people faced one of the greatest persecution of Christians the world has ever known at the start of the period of the unbinding of Satan, which was perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks at the start of the First World War. The Armenian Genocide is also alluded to in the unbinding of the four angels of the Four Angels at the River Euphrates described in Rev 9:13-15, since this location focuses on the Khabur River, which was the exact site on which the Armenian Genocide was centred in the concentration camps of Deir es-Zor. (See the post The Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the Genocides of the 20th Century for more details on the significance of the Armenian Genocide in relation to the period of the unbinding of Satan).

If the millennial day theory discussed by the Early Church Fathers is concerned with providing us with a prophetic dating of the timing of the period of the short time of Satan rather than giving a literal date of creation, this means we can dispense with the Young Earth Creationist theory. A theory which is frequently used by vocal atheists such as Richard Dawkins as fodder for the whole science versus religion debate.

  1. Hi Emmett and good to see you posting again. I have got that book of Kevin Symonds to read and also his book on the third secret of Fatima. Thank you for all this information. Your book alone has inspired me to research so much more on this subject. All these facts make perfect sense to me too in relation to the eclipses and of course in relation to Pope Leo XIII. When you look at current events happening in this world, its so important to keep our minds open to prophecy. The secrets of Fatima and the time frames you have spoke of make so much more sense now. I hope you are keeping well yourself Emmett. I check in every day on your blog just to see have you posted. Your fellow Irish Friend, Mark

  2. Thanks Mark! I'm glad you appreciate my research on this subject! Kevin Symonds' book on the prayer to St. Michael is excellent, but he doesn't address the ramifications of the vision of Pope Leo XIII as to interpreting the chronology of the Apocalypse.

  3. Thanks again Emmett, at least I can read on your blog a lot about Pope Leo XIII vision and everything in relation to the chronology of the Apocalypse. I loved your book and everything else you elaborate on here also. Keep up the great work Emmett.

  4. Yes Emmett, I agree with Mark. Welcome back!! I also checked almost everyday since Jan. for your next blog. Your book is phenomenal and you give clarity to the "signs of the times". Your blogs give even more insight. I so believe in Fatima, but also it's link to Medjugorje. Mary, in her message of August 25th, 1991, said She has come to "fulfill what She began in Fatima. Would love to hear your thoughts on Medjugorje, especially now with Pope Francis's approval. I've been there 3 times now and it is truly real.
Please don't take so long for your blog Emmett. Mark and I can't wait that long! Your follower in Florida.
    God Bless,

  5. Thanks Rich! Much appreciated!
I hope to be blogging more regularly again soon. I've still a lot of personal issues to get through, which has prevented me from spending time writing.
I probably will get round to writing about Medjugorje at some point, but it such a massive subject in itself, and still somewhat controversial.

  6. Emmett,

Incredibly happy to see you posting again, God Bless you and your work!

I mentioned it in a comment in your last post, but I'll ask again... Could you touch on Russia? It weighs heavily, particularly in light of Fatima, so I would be keenly interested on your take of Her in the end times.

Know you have a lot on your plate but it would be very interesting!

    God bless

  7. Hi Emmett!! Welcome back! I’m so happy to read your posts again! Have you thought about creating your own graphic of a timeline that includes the unbinding of Satan? (The graphics I’ve googled on the different views of Millenialism are very basic) I think having a timeline with your point of view would add A LOT to the blogosphere! That would be cool! Maybe even mark the different solar eclipses? I always catch myself saying, “wait, how does 1984 play into this again? (The consecration) and the whole “time cut short” thing? Ha! So much overlaps, it’s hard to keep straight sometimes!

P.S. When do your classes start? Is it this fall? I hope you’re looking forward to it! I’ll be keeping you in my prayers!

  8. Hi Emmett. Really great post. Sister Lucia said to the cardinal from the Philippines in an interview she gave to him in 1993 that if St John Paul 11 had not done the 1984 consecration that a nuclear war would of erupted in 1985 but she also said that the hundred year reign of Satan came to an end in 1985. Now as you have pointed out in your post that the reign of Satan is in two parts so if that is so 50 years from 1985 takes us up to 2035.

  9. Anon 88,

I think Russia will play a huge role in years to come. I still believe that it will be reunified with the Catholic Church though, along with the rest of the Eastern Orthodox. The Russian takeover of Europe foreseen by Bl. Elena Aiello appears to be a later event, possibly concerning the times of the Antichrist.

  10. I'll have to look into creating a graphic for a timeline including the time period of the unbinding of Satan, Bridget. My position is really just a further development of St. Augustine of Hippo's material on this subject, but it should warrant a separate graphic to show just how different it is from pre and post millennialism.

  12. Great to see you back, Emmett!

I finally got my hands on a copy of your book. I've only gotten as far as the second chapter so far, but I'm finding it incredibly illuminating. Chapter 1 was really slow going, simply because as soon as I understood the arithmetic involved, I had to try to calculate the numbers for myself. Basically, however, the only thing I really know about the Jewish calendar is that it's based on the lunar month, which, as far as I know, is about 28 days, so that's the multiplier I used. Obviously it wasn't the same one you used, because my results were 'way off the mark, in most cases by about ten years...except one. Calculating the "2300 days," I actually came up with an answer of 1966, which agreed with Emmett's result.
    .
I do have one question, though, and it concerns the plague of locusts mentioned in Revelations. It says that those locusts will be given the same power as the scorpions of the desert. Could that mean that those particular locusts will actually be venomous? Because that's the only "power" scorpions have that I know of. Or is that one still open to interpretation?

    ReplyDelete
  13. JMC, you need to add a year for the lack of a year zero.

I would interpret the "power" of the scorpion as indicating that the "locusts" have an inbuilt weapon system, since the sting of the scorpion is its primary attribute.

  14. Hi Emmett, Carlos Evaristo was the translator for the interview that Sister Lucia gave to the cardinal from the Philippines and he has made a video on Youtube entitled, " The prophecy, consecration, Triumph and secret of Fatima". This video is in English. The original interview was screened on Portuguese TV in the nineties. Carlos has made many other videos on Youtube but most are in Portuguese.

  15. Emmet, have you read Apokalypso by Thomas Jude Germinario - http://apokalypso.com/

Its a fascinating, if not entirely legible, meander through prophecy Catholic and otherwise.
    Well worth a read.

    Good to see you back.

I hope 'Chris' Doesnt return now and spam the comments with 100s of posts about whatever random events occur. I'd be far easier to read and think about others contributions if this sort of thing was dissuaded/removed.

You might consider a youtube channel to precis your writings. A good producer could generate decent work with a voiceover and you could make a few quid from it.... just keep them short and regular.... if you need funding, thats a route I'd suggest...

  16. Hey Anthony W!

I checked out the video you mentioned to Emmett and wanted to point out something in case you missed it. It wasn’t Sister Lucia who said the hundred year reign of Satan came to an end. It was the narrator’s personal opinion. After he DOES quote Sister Lucia saying nuclear war was avoided, he goes on to say, “As I see it...” and then talked about Satan’s stronghold being broken. Anyway, just an important distinction I wanted to share!

  17. I remember the incident in question - about nuclear war being averted - because I was in the military at the time, and the base went on high alert. It was a tense few days until the incident was resolved.
    .
I suspect God so clearly signaled His acceptance of the consecration of the world simply because the Pope WANTED to consecrate Russia, but was prevented. So He saved us from nuclear war, but it still wasn't the right consecration, so Russia has not yet been converted. It will happen one day, though, and hopefully soon - though I doubt it will happen during the current pontificate. Heaven help me, but I'm becoming just as cynical about Pope Francis as everyone else; when he occasionally does say something that's actually in line with Church teaching, I catch myself wondering who he's trying to con. Pray for him.

One thing that came to mind as I read this post -

The flood that would be swallowed up by the earth; it struck me that perhaps the earth is swallowing things up in the form of graves. The flood could be the individuals that caused the entire mess, or perpetrated it, and with their growing ever more gray of hair, the earth is swallowing up a great many of them even now. Just a thought.

  20. And I'm traveling right now, so I brought a book along for some of the downtime. I got a copy of Windswept House and brought it along.

I have to say, if this is cut from whole cloth and entirely a work of fiction, it's quite remarkable how close Martin got to reality. I think I'm growing more in line with the idea that Martin really did have the access he claimed. I've not been convinced of that before, but the evidence is pretty strong in this book (when added to other things).

    ReplyDelete
  21. Windswept House...the reason Martin got so uncannily close to reality is because he based it on reality. Many of the characters in the book are people he actually knew personally, with the names changed, and in one case, the character's fate is what really happened to that individual. When I find the recording of the interview he gave regarding that book, I'll give you the name of it and where you can get it. It's where he discusses the people some of the book's characters were based on.

I'm reading and researching so much lately about prophecy etc and of course this wonderful blog of Emmett's has me hooked and has encouraged me even further to read up on things like the secrets of Fatima etc. I am no scholar but I am trying my best to learn and understand so much of it all. Also just finished a great book on Pope John 1 - Gods Candidate. Mark L

  24. I tried to read the book "Hostage to the Devil" at one point. Fr. Martin didn't pull any punches in that book, repeating some of the worst things the devil will say and do during an exorcism. While it had a lot of interesting insights, I found it so disturbing I couldn't finish it. It even set off a few nightmares.
    .
I will say that even the two or three chapters I did manage to read were enough to move me to take up the practice of deliverance prayers, especially those of Auxilium Christianorum. So I suppose I can say that the book - probably helped by those nightmares - did its job in spite of my weakness.

I got some advice/permission from a wise monk before I tried much of the AC's booklet. The introduction explains it a bit, but I honestly think it should be a good bit more forceful.

I again take the apposing view in regards to this blogs conclusion.

THE CONSECRATION OF RUSSIA PER OUR LADY'S CONDITIONS HAS NOT YET BEEN MET.

I realize i am fighting against the author and his friends CONclusions via print.

If you aggre with this side of the discussion the facts are crystal clear. there is no need of post Sister Lucia's death new information and relevations. How the statement ; IT WILL BE CLEAR AFTER 1960" can refer to a in the future popes life is simply bypassing logic to fit in the pack..

It seems the answer that Lucia gave to the question" Will Communism take over the whole world? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does this include the United States?

    YES she answered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are living very close to this unfortunate takeover being flung in our face and then all the people saying I was wrong will be able to discuss this in an under the breath confirmation. I am beginning to wonder if the dismantling of previously accepted Fatima facts is not a plan.

there are time lines which show this Bridget. maybe that will be posted as well.

"they will do it , but it will be late"

I think it is looking as if the world wide recognition will only occur when a war and this Communist takeover leaves this realization as mam's last chance. IN REALITY

  31. Our time for decision and action is now very short. There will be terrible consequences that reach each one of us, for our collective refusal to do what it takes to get the Consecration of Russia done. In the Third Secret Vision we see the Holy Father being executed by a band of soldiers, but not alone — “In the same way,” Sister Lucy wrote, “there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions.” We’re all in this together, and our only way out is the Consecration of Russia.

“Make it known to the Holy

    the Consecration of Russia

    Father Fox Continues
    to Defend the Indefensible

This article is written to respond to three items posted on the “Fatima Family Apostolate” website operated by Fr. Robert J. Fox. These three items — a “clarification” by the rector of the Fatima Shrine, an article by a so-called “scholar of Fatima,” and a letter from the Vatican nuncio in Washington — were posted by Fr. Fox in an apparent effort to stem mounting criticism of his dogged defense of the recent “interreligious” activities at the Fatima Shrine, which have provoked protests by concerned Catholics around the world.
On an April 25 EWTN program, Father Robert J. Fox ridiculed those Catholics resisting the new interfaith program at Fatima. He said all reports of interfaith activity at Fatima were mere “fabrications”, and that Shrine Rector Guerra would never allow such things to take place. Less than two weeks later, a Hindu ritual was performed at Fatima with Rector Guerra’s approval. Now, Father Fox suddenly defends Rector Guerra permitting pagan worship at a Catholic altar, and he again attacks those Catholics who protest the pagan outrage at Our Lady’s Shrine.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Bridget, you are correct about that line being the interpreters own opinion as he clearly stated "As I see it, symbolically in the realm of Pius Catholic Lore, this broke the 100 year stronghold of Satan over the world as granted by Christ in a vision allegedly had by Pope Leo XIII on March 25th of 1985". So that was just his opinion and not stated by Sister Lucia. So many things get confused by mis-quotes etc but I do find the footage very interesting. I have never seen this footage before where Sister Lucia says "The Virgin never said that the Holy Father had to say the word Russia. She said, he will consecrate Russia to me which will convert and there will be peace". Mark L

  36. Saying that things were Sr. Lucia's own opinion is one of the ways the enemies of Fatima have of dissembling about the message. For example, it was right here where Emmett showed a direct translation of the original Portuguese edition of her last memoirs, concerning the difficulties she had writing down the Third Secret. In that direct translation, Sr. Lucia was told, "...but do not write down that which you were given to know..." In the "official" publication of the memoirs in English, that line was changed to reflect the belief that it was all Sr. Lucia's opinion, rather than something she was "given to know."
    .
I have come to believe that it's a huge red flag when anyone refers to something being Sr. Lucia's opinion...unless it's something she herself said; however, even that's not reliable anymore, since the enemies of Fatima, those who want to sweep that whole business under the rug, are having a grand old time putting words in her mouth that she never said.

    Sister Lucy Betrayed

The same sort of problem arises in addressing two crude pamphlets produced in 1992-1993 by one Carlos Evaristo, an obscure young man from Portugal who claims to have interviewed Sister Lucy on two different occasions in her cloistered convent. According to Evaristo, during these two ““interviews”” Sister Lucy essentially retracted everything she had said about the Message of Fatima during the previous 75 years.

For nearly five years the pamphlets were justly ignored by the Catholic and secular press, having been immediately exposed as bunk by leading Fatima experts, including renowned French ““Fatimist”” Frère François de Marie des Anges. In 1998, however, the pamphlets resurfaced and received considerable publicity.

This development prompted us to commission the following article on Mr. Evaristo’’s notorious pamphlets. Although we, like St. Jerome, had some concern that by replying to Mr. Evaristo we, “should be admitting that he posed a danger demanding confutation,” the recent publicity for his pamphlets required that we address the blatant contradictions of the Fatima Message that Evaristo has presented as the words of Sister Lucy.

    ReplyDelete

  38. This is precisely what Sister Lucy told the Papal Nuncio to Portugal, Most rev. Sante Portalupe, when he met with her on March 21, 1982, to discuss how the Consecration which the Pope had planned for May 13 of that year should be carried out:

“Sister Lucy explained that the Pope must choose a date upon which His Holiness commands the bishops of the entire world to make, each in his own Cathedral and at the same time as the Pope, a solemn and public ceremony of reparation and Consecration of Russia ...” 9

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sister Lucy is a cloistered nun who is not even permitted to see her blood relatives alone. The claim that she held hands for two hours with a strange man she had never met before was laughable on its face and impossible to believe.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Reverend Father Umberto,

In replying to your question, I will clarify: Our Lady of Fatima, in Her request, referred only to the consecration of Russia in the letter which I wrote to the Holy Father Pius XII — at the direction of my confessor — I asked for the consecration of the world with explicit mention of Russia.

Yours devotedly and in union of prayers. Coimbra, April 13, 1980.

    Sister Lucy.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think there are indeed many enemies of Fatima and of Our Lady. Dark forces at work always trying to destroy Christs message for everyone. We should all stay strong and true To God, to Jesus and Our Lady, through prayer, acts of mercy, forgiveness and compassion and love for all. Mark L

    ReplyDelete
  42. Precisely because the attempted consecration in 1982 made no mention of Russia (and the bishops did not participate), Sister Lucy told the Papal Nuncio on March 19, 1983 that:

“The Consecration of Russia has not been done as Our Lady requested. I was not able to make this statement before because I did not have the permission of the Holy See.”13

Even Evaristo admits in his sequel pamphlet that the 1982 Consecration was insufficient because “there was no participation by the bishops, making it invalid.”(14)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Equally impossible to believe was the “interview” as a whole. In fact, it was so unbelievable that the only other Portuguese-speaking witness to Evaristo’s alleged encounter with “Sister Lucy”, Father Francisco Pacheco (who is a lawyer as well as a priest), publicly disavowed the pamphlet in its entirety:

“I was the official translator of this meeting, which lasted two hours. I categorically affirm that the booklet entitled Two Hours with Sister Lucy published by Carlos Evaristo contains lies and half-truths and is not to be believed. When I was first shown a copy in January 1993, I immediately contacted Carlos Evaristo and I personally told him not to publish this booklet because of the gross lies that he had put in it ... I trust that this will end the confusion caused by Carlos Evaristo and his notorious pamphlet.”(2)

  46. There's another reason, besides the fact that Sr. Lucia was a cloistered nun. As was pointed out by the phrase "have not been given permission by the Holy See," she was bound under obedience not to speak about Fatima with anyone without that permission. So even if Evaristo actually attempted to interview him, and was allowed to see her, she would have refused on that basis alone.

sorry to inform you that this guy was the source of the nuclear war averted crap too

    Yet Another Fantasy

At the end of the 1993 interview, the new “Sister Lucy” offers another observation about world events which brings to mind the Vatican’s dismissal of her fantastic story about Gorbachev’‘s repentance on his knees before the Pope:

    “Sister Lucy”:

But when [in 1984] we were at the beginning of a nuclear war and all of a sudden (sic), those projects for war that the nations had ... From one moment to another at the moment when the Holy Father made the consecration, those projects of war ... Everything changed! and (sic) these projects of war ... changed into projects of peace! ... These were projects to terminate everything that have now changed into projects to liberate! ...

    Evaristo:

Then, has the era of Peace come, now that the Consecration of Russia has been accomplished and that communism has collapsed?

    “Sister Lucy”:

The consecration of 1984 prevented an atomic (nuclear) war that would have occurred in 1985 ...

    ReplyDelete
  49. It is very strange indeed that after “Sister Lucy” offered the observation that a nuclear war would have occurred in 1985 if not for the 1984 “consecration””, not one question was asked about this remarkable statement. Was not Evaristo concerned about where Sister Lucy had acquired this astounding knowledge of a nuclear war narrowly averted? Yet Evaristo wanted to know nothing about it during the 1993 “interview”. This is most curious. Perhaps Evaristo realized that, like the conversion and repentance of Gorbachev, this “revelation” would not bear much scrutiny and was best left unexamined.

At any rate, one searches his memory in vain for any recollection of news stories in 1985 about the imminence of nuclear war between the United States and Russia. Nor does anyone with even a modicum of knowledge about world events over the past 14 years believe for a moment that Russia has stopped producing weapons of mass destruction and turned her energies to “projects to liberate”!

And what “projects of liberation”, exactly, is the new “Sister Lucy” referring to? Is she not aware that Russia, along with Israel, is now the chief supplier of weaponry to Communist China, 25 where the Catholic Church has been forced underground and bishops and priests are arrested for the “crime” of being Catholics in union with the Holy See? Is the new “Sister Lucy” unaware that Russia still possesses enough nuclear weapons to destroy the entire world several times over, and that Russian missiles by the thousands remain “on alert” in their silos?

In fact, a major U.S. television news show revealed that in January 1995 Russia came within two minutes of a nuclear launch against the United States 26 in response to a false warning on its early warning radars! U.S. Senator Sam Nunn has stated publicly that Russia’s nuclear weapons are on a “hair trigger”, and that the danger of nuclear war through human error or misjudgment is greater than it ever was during the “Cold War”. 26

None of these hard facts about the state of the world seems to have penetrated the Convent at Coimbra, where the new “Sister Lucy” tells us, through Mr. Evaristo, of a world at peace, on the path of conversion to goodness. Yet we know that the world described by the new “Sister Lucy” is not the world we inhabit. It is a fantasy world, where apostasy is conversion, evil is good and war is peace.
    photo
Shortly after his amiable meeting with Agostino Cardinal Casaroli, architect of Ostpolitik and the new ecumenism, Evaristo emerged from the convent at Coimbra with a new "ecumenical" message from Fatima. What inference can we draw from this strange coincidence?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Chris: You say, "...one searches his memory in vain for any recollection of news stories in 1985 about the imminence of nuclear war between the United States and Russia." Will a material witness do? I was in the military at the time. I remember the base gearing up for war, and being told what had happened. That incident is not fabricated; it did indeed happen. And it indeed was reported on the news that very day. The incident involved the accidental launching of a missile, the destruction of that missile over the mid-Atlantic, and the scrambling of diplomats to resolve the issue before it devolved into a shooting war.
    .
The whole business was really so fleeting, that I think the only reason I remember it at all was because I was peripherally involved in it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. That's what they don't want us to know, but Pope St. John XXIII gave us a hint, as mentioned in one of the comments after Emmett's January post. The Pope said that it involves massive flooding that will kill millions of people in a matter of minutes. Pope Benedict told us that it also predicted the very crisis the Church is now facing. Cardinals and bishops who have read the secret have let out hints as well. Given what I have read from reliable sources about some of the goings-on in the Vatican, I suspect that several Popes have wanted to reveal the entire Third Secret, but were prevented by others; all they could do was drop hints, and even that put them at risk. There's also a "conspiracy theory" floating around out there that Pope John Paul I was murdered because he was insisting on doing the Consecration of Russia properly, and the evil elements decided he had to be stopped at all costs. The fact that Malachi Martin actually alluded to that incident in Windswept House gives it more than a little credence.
    .
In short, I can honestly believe Pope St. John XXIII decided not to reveal the Secret because he didn't want to cause a panic. (It's been hinted by some who have read it that actual dates are mentioned.) It's that terrible. One hint has it that, if the entire contents of that secret were revealed, the lines for Confession would extend around the block at every church in the world. And let's face it, that's the last thing the evil element wants to see, because that's that many souls that will be torn from the devil's grasp.

Chris I completely agree with your comments about Fatima and that the consecration has not been done. Fr. Gabriele Amorth stated this in an interview shortly before he died which can be found online. Of course, the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and did have an effect on Russia's ability to wage war. I believe there was destruction of a large part of their arsenal of nuclear weapons. I don't have time to look it up but will later. The book "My Battle Against Satan" by Elisabetta Fezzi which is an interview with Fr. Amorth before his death and has an interview with his associate Fr. Stanislaus in the appendix after his death confirms the consecration was not done.

I have read much that suggests the message of Our Lady of Akita which was given Oct 13, 1973 (13 years after 1960) is what the wording of the 3rd secret of Fatima indicates. I am believe this to be factual.

Also, since Our Lady did not come to ask for the consecration of Russia until June 13, 1929, I agree with others including the Fatima Center and Christus Rex site that the chastisement will begin in 2029 or shortly after if the consecration is not done as requested by Our Lady specifically naming Russia. Remember Our Lord came to Sr. Lucia in 1931 and complained that since his ministers follow the King of France in not responding to His request they shall follow him into misfortune. As we all know King Louis XIV did not heed Our Lord's request sent to him from St Mary Margaret Alacoque June 17, 1689 to consecrate France to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and 100 years later June 17, 1789 the French Revolution began with King Louis XVI beheaded January 21, 1793,

I think all should look into this as much as possible because the time is very short and many souls will be lost.

    God Bless You

  62. Eric, you've hit the nail on the head. Yes, it has even been acknowledged by Church authorities that the Akita apparitions were a recap of Fatima. I suspect that now, in bits and pieces, Heaven itself is revealing what the Popes have refused to tell us. That tells me that, as Mark implied, that information is critical to the salvation of souls.
    .
I would say to research Marian apparitions from as early as the 19th century. I suspect that, if you put them all together, you will have the complete Third Secret.
    .
In the meantime, heed the angel with his message of "Penance! Penance! Penance!" We must do penance not only for ourselves, but for those who refuse to do so. Did you accidentally prick your finger while sewing on a button? Offer it up. Our Lord was talking about more than mere donations when he talked about the widow's mite.

  63. “Yes, it has even been acknowledged by Church authorities that the Akita apparitions were a recap of Fatima.”
I am troubled by this statement. If the same church authorities have not truthfully revealed the third secret of The Fatima apparitions, why would they confirm the Akita apparitions as a recap?
Call me a skeptic if you will, the Akita apparitions leave me uncomfortable. Although the events around Sister Agnes Sasagawa appear to include visions and stigmata, the ‘red light’ for me was the weeping statue. This statue was carved from the wood of a Katsura tree by a BUDDHIST monk in the likeness of the image from the apparitions in Amsterdam, ‘THE Lady of All Nations’ from 1945 until 1959. If you can find the original transcript (not the edited versions) of the purported messages of these apparitions, you will quickly understand that they could not be from OUR Lady. Also, the original prayer is problematic. These events were not seen as supernatural from the Bishop of Haarlem, but his auxiliary Bishop changed the findings when he had the opportunity.
In Bonaventure Meyer’s ‘Warning from Beyond’ a transcript of an exorcism in Switzerland, under authority of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, one admission of the exorcised demons was that the All Nations apparitions were their undertakings.
Those that follow the Akita apparitions openly admit the All Nations connection. For me, as I cannot trust myself with an assessment on either, safely recommend following Our Lady of Fatima’s requests of daily rosaries and five first Saturday’s in reparation of offences against Her Immaculate Heart.
    Michael G

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have my own reservations about the All Nations thing as well. I've read that it was approved, but the Church had to change one line of the prayer, from "who once was Mary" to "the Immaculate Heart of Mary." To my knowledge, such changes were never necessary before, and it set off alarm bells in my head.
    .
At least the Akita apparitions don't recommend actions to take beyond prayer and penance, giving us no specific prayers or devotions - at least according to the material I was able to obtain on the subject - beyond giving ourselves to Mary but again, no specific prayers were given. To be honest, none were needed; we have older prayers to do that - the classical consecration prayer of St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, or the "My Lady, my Queen, my Mother" prayer. The warning of Akita, of fire falling from the sky, is predicted in other prophecies as well, primarily in the Book of the Apocalypse. Emmett recounts some of those sources in his book.
    .
As always, when dealing with such apparitions and revelations, caution is the keyword, but also bearing in mind that in many instances the visionaries themselves were subjected to the most powerful temptations, not from any human source, to doubt the veracity, to wonder if they'd imagined it all, and to simply forget the whole thing. This is especially true in cases where the event consisted not of actual visions, but of interior locutions. Elizabeth Kellerman and the "Flame of Love" locutions are a case in point.
    .
I'm sure that, as we advance closer to the time of the Triumph, there are going to be an increasing number of suspect apparitions, seeming on the surface to be united to Fatima, but diverging in very subtle ways. With the corruption that is currently so rampant among the prelates of the Church, many of those apparitions may end up being approved. On the other hand, the Rosary has been recommended to us as the most powerful weapon in our spiritual arsenal since the time Our Lady gave it to St. Dominic. Someone recently referred to it as our "spiritual WMD." Perhaps Fr. John O'Connor said it best in a personal message he sent to me after I had asked him some questions regarding one of his talks: When in doubt, pray the Rosary. Turn to Our Lady; she will never lead you astray.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Out of all the "approved" private revelations, Akita is the most suspect. The Vatican has attempted to distance itself from the phenomena at Akita since Bishop Ito gave his initial approval. The similarities of the private revelations given there to the Neues Europa text is a major red flag for me. I have to say I am more inclined towards disbelief of Akita nowadays, or I would at least treat it with suspicion.

The Jews were expelled from England in 1290 CE on, you guessed it, Tisha b'AvReady for just one more?
World War II and the Holocaust, historians conclude, was actually the long drawn-out conclusion of World War I that began in 1914. And yes, amazingly enough, Germany declared war on Russia, effectively catapulting the First World War into motion, on the 9th of Av, Tisha b'Av

  74. Many additional tragedies throughout history have marked the day of Tisha B’Av. One of the most ominous was Tisha B’Av-August 1, 1914. On that day Germany declared war on Russia, transforming the European conflict between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Serbians backed by Russia, to a World War between opposing alliances.

  77. I'm sorry if my rebuttal came across as antagonistic; it wasn't intended that way at all. One of the drawbacks of written communication; tone of voice and body language, which can change the entire tone and meaning of a comment, are missing.
    .
You posted a few facts about the two world wars that I wasn't aware of from my school studies, though even then (mid-1960s), historians were leaning toward the conclusion that both wars were in reality one long war with a twenty-year "truce" in between. And the blame for it was largely America's; at Wilson's urging, borders were adjusted and land apportioned by language rather than by culture, so several groups ended up sharing nations when they may have spoken the same language, but culturally had absolutely nothing in common. Czechoslovakia being a prime example. It created a simmering pot of trouble that the people affected are still trying to straighten out today.
    .
And, of course, as we all know, the excessively punitive measures taken against Germany in particular are what paved the way for Hitler's rise to power in the first place.

  79. Hey JMC,

Degree in history here. You've been warned. :)

So, when I was in school in the early/mid-80s, the narrative had changed. The sequence of events ran from 1870 through the end of WWII, and you could extend that easily into the Cold War.

The Versailles sanctions against Germany after WWI were largely at the behest of France. France had a pretty simple foreign policy towards Germany at the time: REVENGE. They wanted revenge for the humiliation at Sedan and the entire Franco-Prussian war in 1870. They eventually exacted that revenge, but it was that same revenge that generated the situations that lead to WWII. Would WWII have happened if it weren't for the revenge sought by France? Well, you'd still have the Danzig corridor and the problems in the Balkans. Who knows.

Stalin ultimately cured Wilson's errors in the language-centric redrawing of European borders. He simply deported all minority peoples from the various new borders to emerge from WWII. Wilson was a goof for dreaming up the language issue in the first place, but Stalin was...well...

there are more refereences to this approval. as someone who is aware of the grand picture and the majarity of information, may i ask you to expound on your admonition to caution regarding this apparition.

  87. Hey everybody! Another thought I wanted to share and see if anyone else agreed.

Pope Francis- “I am concerned because we hear speeches that resemble those of Hitler in 1934,”

So, assuming Emmett’s theory is correct, and Hitler was the False Prophet, and Pope Francis is possibly the Angelic Pope/One of the Two Witnesses...could this be a prophetic warning as we approach the end of Satan’s greater power? Pointing to a future battle with the Antichrist who will be similar to Hitler?

    ReplyDelete
  88. I actually doubt that Pope Francis is the Angelic Pope, but that does not negate the possibility that the warning is prophetic. After all, there really are some Hitlerian things floating around out there...though I suspect the speeches I have in mind are not the ones the Pope is talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Oh yeah, it’s definitely up in the air wether or not Pope Francis is the Angelic Pope. (Plus if he is one of the Two Witnesses...where is His counterpart? The Great Monarch? Shouldn’t he have entered the scene by now?) BUT, the Second Pentecost is kicked off by the unification of the East and West Church, right? This is an area I feel really dumb about. Is it solely the Pope and Orthodox leader who have to agree to join back again? Meaning, is it something that could be done overnight with just a meeting? If so, maybe Pope Francis isn’t too old to fulfill the role.

By the way, if I had conversations like this with any average person or anywhere else online, they’d think I was completely nutty. I just enjoy bouncing ideas around here!

    Thanks!!

  93. No one said he actually IS the Angelic Pope; in fact, if you go back and read some of the comments on other posts, most of us agree he has been sowing confusion, if not outright heresy. That said, with so many people praying for him, it's not outside the realm of possibility that he may convert and recant his errors - as things stand right now, probably not likely, but not impossible, either. But the Angelic Pope? I don't think so. For one thing, his theological/political stance notwithstanding, it's way too soon, and at 82, it's unlikely he'll be around long enough. But once again, with God, nothing is impossible.

Here is Pius X's prophecy who was like Benedict named Joseph.

What I have seen is terrifying!” he cried out. “Will I be the one, or will it be a successor? What is certain is that the Pope will leave Rome and, in leaving the Vatican, he will have to pass over the dead bodies of his priests!" It’s uncertain what this vision alluded to, but it is similar in many respects to the reported third prophecy of Fatima. Later, shortly before his death, another vision came to him: "I have seen one of my successors, of the same name, who was fleeing over the bodies of his brethren. He will take refuge in some hiding place; but after a brief respite, he will die a cruel death. Respect for God has disappeared from human hearts. They wish to efface even God's memory. This perversity is nothing less than the beginning of the last days of the world."

  101. It's my understanding that the Great Tribulation is actually the time of the Antichrist, and it's going to be a while before we see him, because the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the Second Pentecost have to happen first.
    .
John, your phrase "exposition on Fatima" makes it sound as if you think Fatima is false. Your statement that everything else besides Fr. Rodrigue's videos and prayer, rosary, Mass, and adoration is either far off or false actually makes Fr. Rodrigue's videos themselves suspect, especially since you say that they only SEEM to be approved. I think it would be more prudent to look for an ACTUAL approval of his apparitions before throwing all your eggs in his basket.
    .
All true heavenly apparitions agree with each other. If one tells you to disregard all the others - whether it outright says that, or just makes you think it - makes the one suspect. Your posts also have a note of panic to them. Calm down and examine things a little more carefully.
    .
None of this is to devalue prayer - especially the Rosary - Mass, and adoration in the least. These and the Sacraments are precisely what we need to prepare. And we are certainly in *A* tribulation right now, but it's far from being the Great Tribulation to which you refer.

Notice I said “type” not THE. Like JMC said, that is further down the road. Turns out, 1260 days before July 4th, 2020 is January 21, 2017. The day after Trump’s inauguration. One thing I don't understand is the belief that the peace is going to happen AFTER the Antichrist. I was always taught that the reign of the Antichrist would end with the return of Our Lord Himself, which would then be followed by the Final Judgement and the End. So the "peace" that comes after the Antichrist will be of the eternal variety, and only for those who make it to Heaven.

Any way I have a question .... - what do you think the second forthcoming total eclipse over the United States on April 8th 2024 will signify? For that matter, can you refresh my/our memories on what the August 21,2017 solar eclipse signified (with a link)?
Additionally, although the apparitions of Garabandal has not been approved - (yet - non constat....) do you think this may tie in the the "tying up of the strongman"? One of the prophecies is that before the great miracle - there will be a "minor chastisement" ( which really is more of a gift) in the way of an illumination of conscience for the whole world in which the world will see themselves - their soul- as God sees it. To me this seems to tie in nicely with a "spoiling" of the strongman's goods.

  110. Hi Xorro,

I'm not too sure exactly what the 2024 eclipse will bring, other than it will cause a lot more reflection on what exactly transpired during the 2017 eclipse. I argued that the 2017 eclipse was concerned with the story of the sign of Jonah and the repentance of the Ninevites, and how this ties in with the hand of the angel with the flaming sword being stayed to allow for a period of penance before the coming of the Antichrist.

    https://unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com/2016/11/the-sign-of-jonah-and-binding-of-satan.html

Yes, there are a lot of other prophecies concerning the restoration of the Church (including mention of a "great sign"), which I believe ties in with the spoiling of the strongman's goods.

    ReplyDelete
  111. As I understand it, Garabandal has not yet been approved simply because it primarily involves prophecies, and no approval can be forthcoming until at least one of those prophecies comes to pass. Now, if the prophesied illumination actually does take place, then that may be part of what kicks off the Second Pentecost, if not the primary part. I can see that illumination getting a wayward Pope and Curia back on track, doing everything that Our Lady of Fatima asked for, thus bringing about the Triumph, the Peace that is necessary for the spread of the word, and everything else that is supposed to happen.
    .
The region of ancient Nineveh experienced two total eclipses in the space of a century, when normally it takes about three centuries for a total eclipse to recur in the same area. Now it's happening in America, and this time it's in the space of SEVEN years. If I'm understanding what I read in Emmett's book correctly, one of the things that's supposed to happen in the end times is that much of the "secret code" in the Bible will be fully understood for the first time in history; we're seeing some of that already, in that technology has advanced far enough that we're able to see things like just what the "mark of the Beast" entails. It makes me think that total eclipses occurring that close together may be meant as reminders to people to prepare spiritually - to "get right with God," as some people put it - not necessarily because they're about to die, though considering the fact that the last eclipse was followed by severe storms and earthquakes that claimed many lives, that's probably not as unlikely as we'd like to think, but just for God's own sake, as well as their own.

  112. July 4 this year, the heavenly Father declared his patience had run out. The first wave of Chastisement is here, a worldwide earthquake, centered on the U.S. to fulfill Revelation 18. The U.S will be no more and likely 2/3 underwater as St. Hildegarde foresaw. All this by October (by my estimate).

As I said we are about three years into the Beginning of sorrows. It seems the earthquakes, famines, plagues, and WWIII are all going to happen VERY quickly, very. For I see the AC appearing in 5-9 months (though perhaps a little later).

It is NOW, as the Heavenly Father decreed last Oct 28 and again on July 4. It's NOT a prediction. It is present tense He used and emphasized right NOW. We are beyond speculation.

    God bless.

  121. Hi Emmett,

You know what I find interesting. the next solar eclipse for America is scheduled for Monday April 8th 2024. It goes across America in such a way to make an X, seven years after the Aug 21. eclipse you describe above. Monday April 8 2024 is the day after Divine Mercy Sunday that year. Made me think of this line from Saint Faustina's diary: "Before the Day of Justice, I am sending the Day of Mercy." Maybe even literally. Food for thought.

    ReplyDelete
  122. An X over the US? That can't be good...

    ReplyDelete
  123. This blog does a pretty good description describing the X created by the two total solar eclipses of the US. The two eclipses are seven years apart, this seven year difference is also quite the anomaly where total solar eclipses are concerned. To quote the story: "for an area to get not one, but two, total solar eclipses in just seven years is a truly remarkable occurrence."

    https://nationaleclipse.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/x-marks-the-spot-two-total-solar-eclipses-in-seven-years/

    ReplyDelete
  124. It's interesting that the center of the X falls over an area that includes the Mississippi River. It brings to mind the lateral collapse of the volcano at Cumbre Vieja and the subsequent tsunami. Such an event would not only bring a massive tidal wave to the East Coast, but would also cause inland rivers to overflow their banks.
    .
Back in the early 1990s, I saw a documentary talking about a future event that would include such massive flooding that the entire Great Plains region of the US would be under water, creating a map in which the Appalachians and the Rockies are separated by a vast region of water. I don't remember what the causative event in that documentary was - largely because I didn't see it from the beginning - but I can easily see it being related to the tsunami.

  126. I wouldn't worry about Richard Dawkins.

In The Irrational Atheist, by Vox Day, Richard was proven a fake who bases his attack on Christianity through falsehoods. Dawkins is a liar and we should just pray for his conversion.

And the 'evidence' for an old earth is being continually crushed by many secular scientists as the science is based upon incorrect assumptions.

It, old earth, evolution, etc. was always about removing God from our lives.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Does this mean that the age of the earth is more likely a few tens of thousands of years (hundreds of thousands at most), rather than the billions geologists claim? I've always rather suspected that myself, just from various things I've read in my life.

  128. Darwin needed Lyell for time frames for evolution.

Lyell just had a hypothesis that never can be tested experimentally.

We used the combination of Lyell and Darwin as the presupposition for carbon dating.

Carbon dating is then used for the larger dating Argon, etc.

But there is no way to prove the earth is billions of years old.

  129. I do not normally comment, just read what is submitted, however I have some time today and thought I would add some thoughts to the blog. Having purchased and read Emmett's book a couple of years ago and followed the blog since, I think Emmett emphatically hits some nails, whilst misses on some others.

Notably, I believe he is absolutely right to emphasise the role of advanced technology in the end times, this is the key difference in history between the 21st century and any other time in the past. It is technology that facilitates the end times in both passive and active ways, eg by distracting people from religion, by facilitating sin on a global real time basis to every man woman and child, and crucially enabling an Empire and finally a single individual to influence and ultimately control mankind on a global basis with electronic money, ecommerce, AI etc etc. Prior to the 21st century it was difficult to even conceive of how antichrist could rule the world, the practicalities were not conducive, now at least it is conceivable. And, current advanced technologies taken to their logical extreme, can be seen to fully mitigate the physical consequences of the Fall, even death, but not the spiritual consequences. This can be seen to answer the point in the catechism (my emphasis):

The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the "mystery of iniquity" in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.

Manmade technology will solve all practical problems, but at the price of the loss of faith. Antichrist can then fill the spiritual void. Given the role of advanced technology in eschatological history, there is still some time to go before its full effects are available, but interestingly the pace of technological development is speeding up, so the world is moving to a singularity (the antichrist) on the back of technology at a geometric rate.
It is also rather telling that Emmett’s point over Satan’s century (the 20th) was kick started by World War 1 which was the real catalyst for all of the changes we saw in the rest of the century and which laid the foundations for the 21st. If Satan could be seen to preside over any war, WW1 was his, WW2 merely ensuring what WW1 started was accelerated. WW1 started total war, which enabled state control of society and ensured women become economic workers, as well as destroying the old order across Europe and the world.

I am less keen on the more astrological points of Emmett’s book, which even if they are correct, seem to be minor points given the 20th and 21st centuries actual events.
I believe we are well past the mid-way point in eschatological history, but I don’t think the Parousia is imminent.
What is to come in the rest of the 21st century?

  133. @Anthony W..... I saw that article and now I’m confused because I thought that Satan will soon be bound ? Do you recall the time frame of the Medjugorje message?

    ReplyDelete
  134. I've listed to some of Fr. Ripperger's stuff on YouTube; he's said that, right from the beginning, the local bishops were trying to caution people away from following this alleged apparition; the problem is, it started at a time when the local town was in financial trouble, and the tourism has brought it back to prosperity, and the locals simply don't want to close up shop, so to speak.
    .
I once read somewhere that obedience is one of the key signs of whether or not an apparition is real: If the bishop orders the seer(s) to silence, and they keep silent about it, that's one indicator that it may be the real deal. After all, Sister Lucia could have told us a lot about Fatima, but she was ordered not to, so she never did. There's stuff about Fatima that she took to her grave. There are other alleged apparitions where the seers have been ordered to silence, and they're bruiting it all over the Internet. That's a red flag. In true apparitions, the seers will be advised to obey, even if they're given instructions contrary to what they received in the apparition, because God will eventually bring things around so that His Will is done. I don't know if the local bishops ever told the seer to keep silence about the matter, but the very fact that such a financial side exists to this matter bothers me.
    .
So I'm still very much on the skeptical side about Mejugorje. No final word has come from the Vatican about it, despite the fact that there was supposed to have been a Vatican-level investigation started several years ago. I would advise caution here until and unless some final judgment is made on the matter.

    ReplyDelete

  135. Is this the third secret and why it has not been revealed??

Medjugorje Visionary Mirjana” Our Lady showed me the first secret and it appeared to me like a movie. “The earth was desolate and in upheaval” Then she spoke of Unbelievers – “They do not know what awaits them.”

    chris

    ReplyDelete
  136. The first secret was the vision of Hell. And we already know that the Third Secret, besides the explanation of the vision of the "bishop dressed in white," contains references to catastrophic flooding and other natural disasters as part of the Great Chastisement, from hints dropped by those who have read the Secret, but could not do more than hint because they had been sworn to secrecy.
    .
Various priests and bishops, over the years, have warned that Mejugorje is likely not a true apparition; they have called it anything from "not supernatural," to "possibly demonic." If it's "not supernatural," then it's nothing more than a gigantic con; the seer is simply drawing from things read or heard elsewhere. To my knowledge, nothing has been revealed that isn't already known. No prophecies have been made that we haven't heard elsewhere. On the other hand, if it's demonic...Well, it pains them greatly, but the demons can speak truth, though they use it to deceive. Once again, until and unless a final, definitive decision comes down from the Vatican, caution is the byword.

    ReplyDelete
  137. JMC

I agree that care is needed wih all alleged apparitions..

But I think Medjugorje is even more remarkable according to you , in that for thirty years the devil has been pleading for confession, prayer and returning to catholic principles..

I find this demon quite remarkable.

    Chris

    ReplyDelete
  138. Chris - that is precisely how the Devil and demons operate...They operate in half-truths and hide their evils behind a screen of good works and fruits.

Satan will gladly have many convert, to bring down those priests and nuns who are being disobedient...he doesn't care. 10,000 converts is worth the souls of 8 or so to him. He took down Judas, all the while knowing that by doing so, Christ would be crucified and thus lead to his destruction. He is both cunning, genius and incredibly stupid, all at the same time.

I've been to Medjugorje and the disobedience (and opulence) of the clergy there (Franciscans no less), as well as of the seers, is without a doubt beyond shameful.

And another point that just popped into my head - God can, and does, quite often in fact, bring good out of evil. The apparition is bogus, the seers and involved clergy are disobedient and as holy as a dirty sock - but that in no way means that God can't and won't bring about the conversion of many. In fact, seems like something God has disposed Himself to do - to stick it to Satan, as it were.

The BIGGEST determining factor of an apparition's validity is not how many people go to confession, convert, how many miracles there are etc...the biggest determining factor is obedience. And in valid apparitions you will find it in spades, and is usually why bishops and priests forbid seers from talking or promoting right off the bat.

You absolutely DO NOT have obedenience in Medjugorje. From day 1 the name of the game has been disobedience.

    Medjugorje needs to die.

  139. To Xorro. I think all Catholics can see and feel that the Devil is running a mock in our world at the moment especially in the western world. But a combination of prophecy's from Our Lady and many saints and mystics down the centuries tell us that two important events are to come to our world. Firstly the end of the Godless era that we are living in and an era of peace. "The Triumph of our Lady's Immaculate Heart". And then secondly a falling away again in the future and the rise of the anti Christ.
So do not be concerned for the era of peace Our Lady promised is close at hand. The devil's hundred year reign is about to elapse.

But Medjugorje has lasted for 33 years. We have a law of the Church, which is the most important, to make us distinguish extraordinary facts from facts that are not: from the fruits we know the plant . Now, it is 33 years that Medjugorje has exquisite fruits “.

  145. To anonymous. Be careful condemning Medjugorje on the basis of disobedience. The two bishops who attacked and condemned Medjugorje are unfortunately very suspect themselves. Both of them have been accused of working with the communist government of the former Yugoslavia. If these allegations are true that they colluded with the communist authorities and let me be fair and use the word allegedly then this puts a whole new light on what has gone on at Medjugorje after all the Vatican took the parish of Medjugorje away from the Bishop and also remember that the Vatican has declared the first week of the apparitions as worthy of belief. I believe that Our Lady is appearing at Medjugorje and the reason for the length of these apparitions is because of the dire peril our world is in.
    God bless Anthony W

  147. Amy,

I absolutely agree with you that the Earth and humanity are not millions of years old. This is just one of many lies peddled by the Modernists, with no basis in science.

The first man was created approximately 3897 BC. The Flood began around 2241 BC. The subsequent world population, descending from the 8 people on the Ark (a sobering thought given our current political divisions) wasn't dispersed until after the birth of Peleg, 101 years after the Flood.

The Deluge was the demarcation line between a an advanced, "ancient" civilization and the "modern" world we find ourselves in today. The face of the Earth still bears the marks of the Deluge: fossil and sedimentary record, and the great geological formations like the Grand Canyon, were formed not over millions of years but rather suddenly and violently during the rapidly receding waters of the Flood.

Most of the waters of the Flood came from below the earth, not above. The ancients knew the exact location of this underground ocean. In the Book of Enoch, we are told that it lies in the midst of the Canary Islands. The capital of Atlantis, of which "ancient" Egypt was but once province, lies not very far from this doorway to the underground, watery abyss, to the East in Mauritania, at a location now known as the “Richat Structure.” The closer a generation was to Adam, the more advanced they were in every respect: genetically, culturally, scientifically. The world was very advanced before the Deluge. Atlantis was the civilization that Adam and his immediate descendants had built. It was a worldwide empire, and was the civilization whose violence and degeneracy eventually brought God's Chastisement in the form of a worldwide Deluge.

A tremendous resource on the traditional Catholic science relating to origins, is the Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation. In a recent article there, “Scoffers Will Arise in the Last Days,” Hugh Owen writes:

"The Kolbe Center provides a forum for Catholic theologians, philosophers and natural scientists all over the world who defend the Church’s traditional understanding of the sacred history of Genesis, as believed and taught by all of the Fathers, Doctors, Popes and Council Fathers in their authoritative teaching, that God created a perfectly beautiful, complete and harmonious universe—and all of the different kinds of angelic and corporeal creatures—for man, by fiat, less than ten thousand years ago. In one of the most remarkable prophetic passages in the entire Bible, St. Peter our first Pope, was inspired to warn us against an all-out satanic assault on this fundamental doctrine of creation 'in the last days' when 'scoffers' would come into the Church of God saying: ‘Things have always continued as they were since the beginning of creation.’ (2 Peter 3:4)

With this prediction, St. Peter miraculously summed up the precise error that undergirds all of the modern deviations from the traditional doctrine of creation—atheistic evolution, theistic evolution and so-called ‘progressive creation.’

All of these deviations from the traditional doctrine of creation rest, to differing degrees, upon the false assumption that ‘things have always been the same from the beginning of creation’ and that natural scientists can thus legitimately extrapolate from the present order of nature all the way back to the beginning of the universe to explain how and over what period of time all things came to be. But St. Peter goes on to explain in his second epistle why this is impossible when he writes that these ‘scoffers’ will have to be ‘willfully ignorant’ of the fact that: “…the heavens were before, and the earth out of water, and through water, consisting by the word of God. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.’ (2 Peter 3:5-6).”

    ReplyDelete
  148. You know, I never looked at it that way. And it actually makes sense. Before the Fall, the minds of Adam and Eve were clearer than any of us alive today can imagine. They had knowledge that we can't even imagine. We truly have no way of knowing how they may have lived before the Flood. Any artifacts they may have left were doubtlessly utterly destroyed by the waters of the Flood. And it's rather interesting to think that the subterranean waters came from the vicinity of the Canary Islands. Geography's not my long suit, and never was, but isn't Cumbre Vieja in or near the Canaries?

  152. Last I heard, Jason was indeed looking into a monastery a few hours from where he lived. He was going there for a visit, and I kinda suspected he might choose to stay a while. I didn't think it would be four months, to be honest, but I would not be surprised if he stayed some. The place he was looking at is Benedictine, so they won't let him join too quickly. So there is a decent chance that he's gone off grid.

And yes, I know his last name. I don't want to disclose it here as I don't think he'd approve. And yes, given his circumstances and history, I have checked the obituaries a time of three, and have not found him there. But with his situation and Canadian privacy laws, who knows what gets published and what doesn't.

And I think he'd do just about anything to avoid one of those hospitals in Canada. It seems that once you go in, they can control when you get out under some circumstances. He had some experience with those. He might have chosen to go back, true, but I think that would have been a last resort.

And I may have things all wrong too.

He pointed out, in particular, one truly remarkable child who is only five years old and already meditating, that is, doing mental prayer. This immediately called to my mind the belief that there will come a generation among whom will be some of the greatest saints the Church has ever known. If this generation is currently being born, then we may be looking at a minimum of thirty years or so before this restoration starts to take place.

Vatican City, Sep 13, 2019 / 05:11 am (CNA).- In a letter to Bartholomew I of Constantinople, Pope Francis has explained the unexpected gifting of a relic of St. Peter to the leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church in June, a gesture which generated controversy among some Catholics.

The pope wrote to the ecumenical patriarch Aug. 30, saying the decision to give the relic was born out of prayer and intended as a sign of the ongoing work and prayer toward visible communion between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

Pope Francis gave the relic to a member of a delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, which attended a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica for the feast of Saints Peter and Paul June 29.

After the Mass, Pope Francis brought Eastern Orthodox Archbishop Job to a chapel in the papal apartments and offered the chapel’s reliquary as a gift. The bronze box contains nine fragments from what are believed to be the bones of St. Peter in the necropolis beneath St. Peter’s Basilica.

The box bears the inscription, “From the bones found in the hypogeum of the Vatican Basilica, which are believed to be of Blessed Peter the Apostle.”

When Pope St. Paul VI discovered St. Peter’s relics during excavations in 1939, he had the fragments removed to keep in the private chapel of the papal apartments.

“This gesture is intended to be a confirmation of the journey that our Churches have made in drawing closer to one another: a journey at times demanding and difficult, yet one accompanied by evident signs of God’s grace,” Francis wrote to Bartholomew Aug. 30.

“I sensed that this thought came to me from the Holy Spirit, who in so many ways prompts Christians to regain that full communion for which our Lord Jesus Christ prayed on the eve of his glorious Passion.”

Pope Francis said he was reflecting on the “mutual determination to advance together towards full communion,” and thought of a gift Patriarch Athenagoras gave to St. Paul VI of an icon of Saints Peter and Andrew embracing.

This icon, he said, “has become for us a prophetic sign of the restoration of that visible communion between our Churches to which we aspire and for which we fervently pray and work.”

“Hence, in the peace born of prayer, I sensed that it would be highly significant were some fragments of the relics of the Apostle Peter to be placed beside the relics of the Apostle Andrew, who is venerated as the heavenly patron of the Church of Constantinople.”

The Orthodox delegation brought the reliquary to Istanbul, where Monsignor Andrea Palmieri, undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, personally gave it to Bartholomew.

Bartholomew, as patriarch of Constantinople, is regarded as “first among equals” within the Orthodox communion and is seen by many as the worldwide leader of Orthodoxy.

Orthodox Archbishop Job called the gesture “another gigantic step towards concrete unity.”

Pope Francis wrote that the joining of the relics of Andrew and Peter can serve “as a constant reminder and encouragement that, on this continuing journey, our divergences will no longer stand in the way of our common witness and our evangelizing mission in the service of a human family that today is tempted to build a purely secular future, a future without God.”

An interesting item I read on Mysticpost from Father Livio who is the Director for Radio Maria said that he believes that the secrets of Medjugorje will start to unfold in 2021, which will be 40 years after the apparitions first started. As Father Livio says that 40 is a very important number in the Bible for example the 40 days Jesus fasted and the 40 years the Israelites wondered in the desert etc. As Father Livio warns Our Lady is telling us that time is running out.

  160. The biggest piece of Christian news that has happened recently has to do with the fact that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew celebrated Vespers in a Greek Catholic Church with several prominent Catholic clergyman. In my monastery, who's vision is to aid in the general reproachment between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, this came as a monumental step forward and a cause for celebration.

I would have to do some digging around this blog to find some comments I made within the last year or so in which I assessed that the situation in Ukraine between the Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Orthodox Churches would contribute to the closening of ties between Catholics and the Orthodox. Unfortunately that has turned into a standoff between Constantinople and the Moscow Patriarchate, however, it seems that relations between Constantinople and Rome have steadily improved as a result. I love my Russian Orthodox brethren but their ecclesiology is a mess, this schism among the Orthodox will not be healed unless humility is practiced with the intent of unity being the goal.

And don't you Catholics think I am letting you off the hook in this matter. The Roman Church has more than its fair share of contributions lacking in humility that has fostered the status quo of schism. Let us be attentive in our prayers for unity among ALL the faithful as well as those who are in most need of God's Mercy to repent and convert their hearts to conform to Him.

  163. Actually, Anthony, dig a bit deeper.

The site Chris linked is junk, but they seem to have just plagiarized a LifeSite news article. LifeSite has the actual link. That link goes straight to the Vatican website. The whole paragraph reads:

"The nation-state cannot be considered as an absolute, as an island with respect to the surrounding circumstances. In the current situation of globalization not just of the economy but also of technological and cultural exchanges, the nation-state is no longer able to procure on its own the common good of its populations. The common good has become global and nations must affiliate themselves for their own benefit. When a supranatural common good is clearly identified, it necessitates a specific, legally and concordantly constituted authority capable of facilitating its fulfilment. Let us consider the great contemporary challenges of climate change, of the new forms of slavery and of peace."

    Keep posting 'em, Chris.

I do wonder if the cause of one's own salvation is a primary concern in light of how many people I see get consumed by a desperation to confirm a bias they have developed? Lifesitenews.com is well known to have an agenda against Pope Francis, furthermore how exactly does anything that Pope Francis does directly affect your journey to the fulfillment of your salvation?

People need to find better things to do with their time. Conspiracy theories like Trump's Russian collusion and this nonsense about Pope Francis are predicated on conclusions that people WANT to find evidence to support so to feed their own bias. They are a dangerous source of pride and a major distraction from the actual true practice of faith, tools of the evil one. They are a cause for people to say, "I told you so" in the unlikely event that any stitch of the conspiracy be found true. Truly though, who cares insofar as how you are affected?

The Liberal Catholics think that if the Catholic Church dilutes it's teachings and becomes like a Protestant church that some how miraculously the churches will suddenly be full. Are Protestant churches full? No, many are virtually empty. And then the very conservative Catholics think a return to the past pre Vatican 11 will work and fill the churches again but unfortunately the world has changed. YOU are entitled to YOUR OPINION but having been a follower of conspiracy theories prior to entering into the Church I see what you proport as nothing but the same. Again, it is all a distraction aimed at getting whoever buys into it to take their focus off of the actual faith practice.

Jesus Christ said that the gates of hell will not withstand the Church and yet we have people claiming among the faithful a paranoia that worldly powers are successful in their efforts to destroy the Church. Again going back to THE FAITH it seems like apathy towards it is the attitude most prevalent.

if you do a shallow search you can find the convictions. it is all leading to a world tax and power given to others regarding self sovereignty and the other popes were incorrect as well however the information disproving this false notion was not as well distributed as it is now.
but when we disagree with this pope on this subject it is not an attack on the church. it is simply a wish to not be spoken for regarding this topic. this is more of an educational disagreement rather than spiritual. however because HE is a Pope it appears to be an attack on his authority.

I think this detachment is especially important in regard to the Pope and the Church. Yes, we love the Church, but a certain detachment is necessary at the same time to keep us from getting TOO attached. If you get too attached, then you fall prey to precisely the kind of distraction that many of us have already experienced.
    .
We have to pick our battles. Those big battles, over things like the Pope apparently aligning himself with the UN, are not for us, the laity. They are for others. We have enough on our plates with our own individual struggle for salvation.
    .
The Legion of Mary has two branches. One branch is out there visiting the sick and prisoners and doing all the charitable work. Then there are those of us whose dispositions or stations in life make it unreasonably difficult, if not impossible, to be out there on the front lines, so to speak. Those belong to the second branch, which says a specific set of prayers daily for the first branch. That's where most of us belong in this fight. Our prayers will help those whose job it is, to win the battle, while simultaneously helping us in our own individual battles.

I think I stumbled upon this detachment when I was researching The Scandal and the sources thereof. If I hadn't, I doubt I'd still be Catholic. The rot is so pervasive and goes back so far, that you have to detach from some of it or the rot will overtake you.

Chris said - "How are we to digest our leader stating the Moslem faith and Christianity are not only equal but worship the same God!"

You need to change that to leaders, not leader. JPII included this element in the catechism (CCC841, referencing Lumen Gentium 16). This is not specific to this leader. And insofar as the Muslims profess to believe in the God of Abraham, we do believe in the same God. The distinction, I think, is in their following of the wrong son of Abraham, the one born of sin and defiance and fear, rather than the one born of trust. While I don't have a problem saying that we believe in the same God, I do have a problem in ignoring this distinction as it is fundamental to where each of these religions is today.

Kevin Miller said - "YOU are entitled to YOUR OPINION"

And you are entitled to yours as well (capital letters and all). And while the Bible does say that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church, it does not indicate how that victory will be gained or at what cost. Remember Luke 18:8 in conjunction with Matthew 16:18 - "Nevertheless, the Son of Man, having come indeed, will He find faith upon the earth?" (Interlinear Bible literal translation of the Greek). Yes, the Church will survive ultimately, and God is in charge and we trust in his promises, but do we ignore the painful element of the quote from Luke? How do we know what the cost will be for the success of the Church? How would John Bosco answer that question? How would Saint Faustina look at it, given her vision of hell and those falling into it? TLDR; don't automatically write off the fact that some of the watchers on the wall read the Matthew quote in conjunction with the Luke quote, and a hefty dose of reading the signs of the times. That makes Chris' "conspiracy theories" worth at least looking into. Based on Luke 18:8, you don't know any better than Chris does what our faith will look like at the end of the world.

There are a lot of things I don't get as well in this regard. You're correct in that Islam does not recognize Jesus as the son of God. But they do profess to believe in the God of Abraham. At the absolute best, that puts them on the same plane as the Jews relative to their own understanding of God; imperfect and incomplete, but expressing belief in the same God.

The way I reconcile Lumen Gentium and the Catechism in this regard, is that we're only taking Islam at face value on this subject. They profess this faith in the God of Abraham, and the Church seems to accept that statement at face value. And personally, I take it nowhere beyond that. I'll accept that they profess a belief in the God of Abraham, but that they've let that one fundamental sentence be clouded so much as to render the reality of that profession very nearly meaningless. As far as I can tell, that acknowledges the statements in Lumen Gentium and the CCC, and further acknowledges the reality we see in the world today.

And I am open to correction on this interpretation, if anyone whats to have a go at it.

  176. Someone made a comment in passing that, historically, I think is the central issue: Isaac vs. Ishmael. Ishmael's mother, Hagar, was Sarah's handmaid, and, according to the custom of the time, since she was apparently barren, she told Abraham to get a son on her handmaid for her. That son was Ishmael. Then, when Sarah herself finally bore Isaac, she feared that Ishmael, the older son, would displace Isaac from the promise God made to Abraham. She showed a lack of trust in God when she demanded Abraham cast out Ishmael and his mother.
    .
When they were wandering in the desert, in danger of death due to the harsh conditions, God intervened to save their lives and promised to make Ishmael's descendants, too, a great nation. He also warned them that the two nations would always be at odds with each other. Prophecy aside, that was almost a foregone conclusion, considering how Hagar and Ishmael must have felt about being cast out to fend for themselves in a hostile environment. Hagar certainly must have felt betrayed by Sarah, whom she had served faithfully, as well as by Abraham. And Ishmael himself must have been understandably bitter that his own father had cast him out.
    .
I have to wonder if the Muslims, who are essentially the descendants of Ishmael, were intended by God from the very beginning to become, eventually, the instrument of chastisement they seem to be today, and for this very purpose made the promise that he did to Hagar and Ishmael. Naturally, this is only pondering and conjecture on my part, just as valid as anyone else's opinion on the matter, since there is no knowing the answer for certain this side of the grave, simply because no man can presume to know the mind of God.

I've wondered about that as well. It seems logical on the face of it. The biggest problem is that God would then seem to be holding Ishmael's branch away from salvation, or at least, holding it at a distance. Isaac's descendants have the sacraments, Ishmael's has nothing.

But JMC, have you thought that line of reasoning through a little further? It gets even more interesting and vastly stickier. If Ishmael's line was capable of achieving salvation - and let's not quibble about that just now - what happened when Mohammed came into the picture? My running through this little experiment - in conjunction with Lumen Gentium and the CCC quotes - leads me to wonder if Mohammed wasn't a diabolical agent that distorted the line of Ishmael into what we see today. It makes you wonder what the religion/faith of the Ishmael line looked like before Mohammed stepped into the picture. But I don't see many of Mohammed's actions as being compatible with our understanding of God, nor really with the Judaic understanding of God.

It's a fascinating little rabbit hole that will consume many hours of many days, if you let it. :)

  179. One of the 5 pillars of Islam is declaring that there is only one God, Allah, and that Muhammad is his messenger. Muslims believe Muhammad is the final prophet of God, and the Qur'an is God's truest revelation although they do believe in reverence for many of the prophets of Judaism and Christianity, particularly Moses and Jesus.

But as Christians we believe that there is only one God and his son, Jesus Christ was the Messiah, sent to save the world as prophesied in the Old Testament. God's character is threefold (the Trinity): Father (Creator), Son (Jesus), Holy Spirit (unseen guiding force). And one of our core beliefs is that Jesus Christ died to save the world, and rose from the dead (the Resurrection) as told in the New Testament.

As a Catholic I have never believed that I was worshipping and praying to the same God as Muslims do. I don't doubt Pope Francis good intentions with so many things and I think he is trying so hard to simplify so much for so many people to understand better but I must admit that while I have huge respect for other faiths and beliefs and Pope Francis himself, I do believe in what I have been taught and read in the Christian Bible and I certainly believe that Jesus was the son of God. I think saying that Christians and Muslims believe in the same God will be a bitter pill for people of both faiths to swallow. I hope I do not cause offence by stating that as it's certainly not my intention - Mark L

    ReplyDelete
  180. Oh, it's absolutely a bitter pill, Mark, of that there is no doubt. I've actually heard protestants use this as yet another of the umpteenth reasons that Catholicism is false. But there's still LG and the CCC to contend with. How do you reconcile that idea with what we know about our faith? It ain't easy.

And while Islam says that there is one God and his prophet is Mohammed, who's to say that they're right? There is no final source of dogmatic belief in Islam. Everyone is free to interpret the Koran in whatever way they choose. We have the Magesterium, they have....nothing.

So where our Magesterial teachings say that the Book of Enoch and the Book of Jasher are non-canonical, there is no final source in Islam to say that the Koran is canonical. They simply interpret it as if it were.

My guess is that the faith of Isaac and the faith of Ishmael were very similar in most respects, given that Ishmael and his mother came to that understanding from the same source - Abraham. It likely stayed in much the same form for many generations. Then along comes Mohammed and suddenly a chunk of meteorite becomes the kaaba stone, the moon god becomes important, and the faith of Ishmael comes unhinged from the God of Abraham in all but the understanding of a monotheistic deity.

If Lucifer wanted to corrupt the line of Ishmael, could he have done a better job than to give them Mohammed?

BINGO! Clinton Foundation Donor Amounts By Country – Guess Who Was #1

Ukraine became a vast pool of U.S. taxpayer-funded “aid” that poured into that long-corrupt nation and then saw piles of kickbacks returned to powerful and politically-connected recipients.

  185. And check out this excerpt from a 2015 report:

Between 2009 and 2013, including when Mrs. Clinton was secretary of state, the Clinton Foundation received at least $8.6 million from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, according to that foundation, which is based in Kiev, Ukraine. It was created by Mr. Pinchuk, whose fortune stems from a pipe-making company. He served two terms as an elected member of the Ukrainian Parliament and is a proponent of closer ties between Ukraine and the European Union.

Now we’ll connect the dots that bind Mr. Pinchuk and the Obama White House via this Fox News report of three days ago:

Triangulating Manafort — Obama, Clinton and Ukraine

It is in connection with Paul Manafort that we encounter some genuine collusion targeting the 2016 campaign: willful collaboration among foreign governments, the Obama administration, and the Clinton campaign.

…Manafort had brought influential Democrats into his Ukrainian work, such as former Obama White House Counsel Greg Craig and the consulting firm started by Obama and Clinton adviser John Podesta — a firm that is still run by Podesta’s brother.)

Leshchenko just happens to be a vassal of Victor Pinchuk, a Ukrainian billionaire who just happens to give millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation. Wonder of wonders, Leshchenko took a public, strident anti-Trump position during the U.S. campaign — highly unusual for a foreign parliamentarian.

…Which brings us back to Serhiy Leshchenko, Ukraine’s unabashed Clinton backer. And whaddya know — besides serving the government in Kiev and providing scintillating geopolitical analysis, Leshchenko had a side job: he was a source for…wait for it…Fusion GPS — the Clinton campaign-opposition arm, led by Glenn Simpson, which later dreamed up the Steele dossier.

it seems she is going to be a contestent in the next presidential election!!!!!!!!!!!

What the above outlines is the multi-millions cash-grab that Ukraine had become for the Clintons, some of their closest associates, and members of the Obama administration. Those in Ukraine who were benefiting from this as well didn’t want to see the billions pouring in from U.S. taxpayer-funded aid, to end. They offered help to the Clinton campaign to attack then-candidate Donald Trump. This help reached far beyond the borders of Ukraine and included, but was not limited to, foreign agents in Great Britain, Italy, and elsewhere.

And to be sure, none of this far-reaching corruption could have taken place without the blessing of President Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden, etc.

When Donald Trump won the presidency the enemies of America both internal and external, were all stunned and scared.

The Trump-Russia hoax followed. When that failed, when President Trump refused to buckle and successfully fought back, this latest Ukraine-Trump scheme was hatched and unleashed and strident screeching for impeachment soon followed.
