He said something like:

"They have a path to salvation, but it's rocky and hard, and really beyond our understanding. For us Catholics, it's easier. We have the sacraments, so it's easier for us."

I like the way Staples frames it: "...anyone who is ever saved is not saved by his or her false religious beliefs (i.e. Judaism that rejects Christ, Islam that denies Jesus is the Son of God, etc.); rather, they can be saved in spite of them."

As to the muslim thing, that's a bit different. The CCC is only taking the muslim's at their word. This comes from one thing: they profess to be a faith descended from Abraham. I think that's the key. They could be within the realm of salvation given the connection, ultimately, to Abraham. But they would be saved in spite of themselves.

You might check out Jimmy Akin's book, "The Salvation Controversy." I haven't read it myself, but I do understand that it gets VERY deeply into this subject.Mark Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15138095328541163796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6767475475753279918.post-16098965234147384022017-06-11T20:56:50.093+01:002017-06-11T20:56:50.093+01:00Mark L and Mark W and others.

&q...Mark L and Mark W and others.

Mark L you said:
"The quotes from St. Augustine were clearly written before the Reformation/Revolution of Luther, so it's easy to say that he would have meant Christians in general."

So I am confused, are you saying that St. Augustine would have possibly stated that all Christians outside the catholic church would have salvation? Because I found the following that was allegedly written by him.

Baptism does not profit a man outside unity with the Church ... For many heretics also possess this Sacrament but not the fruits of salvation ... The benefits which flow from Baptism are necessarily fruits which belong to the true Church alone. Children Baptized in other communions cease to be members of the Church when, after reaching the age of reason, they make formal profession of heresy, as, for example, by receiving communion in a non-Catholic Church.

This salvation thing is very confusing. So, I have another question for you guys. Is the Catholic Church saying that protestants that follow their sacraments and are charitable do have salvation or may have salvation? This also applies to Muslims also?

For example, a Roman Catholic who robs a bank with full intent and knowledge which is a Mortal sin and does not confess to a priest but instead confesses to God, will go to hell, but a protestant who confesses to God will go to heaven.

Here is a good article I found on salvation.

https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/is-there-really-no-salvation-outside-the-catholic-church

The Flying Nunnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6767475475753279918.post-3038996842131869802017-06-11T20:19:16.338+01:002017-06-11T20:19:16.338+01:00Blogger psieve2 said...

And he answered: I am afraid you will request from me a sign as well. And they assured him that they would not. He then said to them: When this gate will fall, be rebuilt and fall again, be rebuilt again and fall again. And before it will be rebuilt for the third time the Messiah will appear.

Revered Jewish scholar Rashi, a medieval rabbi who authored a canonical commentary on the Torah, wrote that the arch mentioned by Rabbi Yossi was “a Roman arch in a Roman city”.

chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04605423400109179467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6767475475753279918.post-58136236891572145732017-05-31T05:49:05.607+01:002017-05-31T05:49:05.607+01:00

There's a very deep history...The Flying Nun -

There's a very deep history to this. It's often stated as, "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus" - Outside the Church there is no salvation. It goes back to the third century, and has been pronounced ex cathedra or in councils at least three times.

The problem with sorting this out online is that you'll run into various people that profess absolute knowledge of this subject, but know very little in reality. They will either condemn the Church for such a statement, or condemn everyone outside the Church for such a statement.

This quote is often used to support the condemnation of everyone outside the Church, "No man can find salvation except in the Catholic Church. Outside the Catholic Church one can have everything except salvation. One can have honor, one can have sacraments, one can sing alleluia, one can answer amen, one can have faith in the Name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Ghost, and preach it too, but never can one find salvation except in the Catholic Church." This is from St. Augustine.

But St. Augustine also said, "How many sheep there are without, how many wolves within!"

The Catechism says, "the phrase, "Outside the Church there is no salvation", means, if put in positive terms, that "all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body", and "is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church". And, "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men." And, "she [the Church] is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter", and that "those who have not yet received the Gospel are related to the People of God in various ways."

So, I think what you can get at is this - Rejection of Christ and his teachings leads to hell. Invincible ignorance does not lead to hell, but may not lead to heaven. And the definition of "Church" is critical here.

Think of it this way - if you take away the capital letters from Catholic Church, what do you get? You get "outside the church there is no salvation", or, "outside the catholic church there is no salvation." This renders the meaning to be the universal church of Christ, not just the Latin Rite of Roman Catholicism. This would be more indicative of what the Catechism says than what the Council of Trent is thought to say. The quotes from St. Augustine were clearly written before the Reformation/Revolution of Luther, so it's easy to say that he would have meant Christians in general.

How you get from this to Pope Francis' comment that even atheists can get to heaven - well, that's beyond my capability to explain. You assume an atheist has rejected Christ, and in so doing has left themselves with a single path after death. But clearly I don't think like a pope.Mark Whttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15138095328541163796noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6767475475753279918.post-90779569899078435512017-05-29T12:54:52.151+01:002017-05-29T12:54:52.151+01:00FlyingNun:

(Lumen Gentium 16)

(Read further in that section regarding God's plan of salvation even for those who "strive to live a good life")

Regarding the alleged messages you quote, none of us know if it's happening or not until the Church says, but I don't see a problem with:

"Members of all faiths are equal before God."

Aren't all people equal in the eyes of God? Certainly they are.

"God rules over each faith just like a sovereign over his kingdom."

God rules over the entire universe and all that is in it. Why would any part of it be excluded from his reign, even "those who don't know their right hand from their left" and for whom he spared Ninevah? (Jonah 4.11)

"Even though incorporated into the Church, one who does not however persevere in charity is not saved." One of them might even be the real deal given the current state of affairs, particularly the demonic hostility to both Trump and Putin by apostate, Freemason establishment as well as the Muslim migrant invasion of Europe that has been underway for some time coupled with the loss of Faith in what was once known as "Christendom." I'd put more money on Putin than Trump, given that Putin has actually defended the remnant Catholics in the Middle East with real actions rather than mere words. Putin has also stood up to the Freemason, satanic West with real actions rather than mere words, and Russians have suffered real consequences (sanctions for example) for defending Christianity at home and abroad. It is still too early to make a firm conclusion on Trump and although he sounded promising during the campaign, his recent bombing of Syria forced me to reconsider him. However, it may just be too early to tell and there are signs that his Presidency has been hijacked from within. He may need more time to root out the traitors and Obama leftovers within the Deep State.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6767475475753279918.post-12710312957546456712017-05-29T02:43:52.744+01:002017-05-29T02:43:52.744+01:00Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domi...Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,” 1441, ex cathedra: “The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, <not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives; that the unity of this ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only for those who abide in it do the Church’s sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia produce eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.”

If the above statement was true from Pope Eugene IV, can someone please tell me what the Roman Catholic Church now believes?

Thursday, October 1, 1981 In Medjugorje The Gospa answered the following after questions were asked of her.

Are all religions the same?
"Members of all faiths are equal before God.
