Star of Bethlehem Documentary

I would like to draw readers' attention to a rather excellent documentary concerning the true nature of the Star of Bethlehem (see below) - which has some significance for an important post I'm working on at the moment concerning the "Sign of the Son of Man" mentioned by Jesus during his eschatological discourse (e.g. Matt 24:29-30), and its relationship to the "Signs in Heaven" that presage the end of the age. It appears that this sign was prophesied to herald the arrival of the Second Advent, just as the Star of Bethlehem appeared in the night-skies to announce the arrival of the Messiah. (I know it's a little early for Christmas-themed posts just yet - but it is relevant to the material at hand). It's broken up into several parts on Youtube - so I'll have to post them in order of sequence below:

A stunning set of videos. Thank you for posting them Emmett. I am just back from Rome and feeling very spiritually energised.

Hi Anne,

Rome is such a fantastic city! So much to see there - it's impossible to get round it all in a short space of time. I was particularly moved by the aura of holiness surrounding the tomb of Bl. John Paul II. Being near the tomb of St. Peter is profoundly inspirational.

I was able to visit each day of my stay and see wave after wave of people/groups praying from all over the world at Our Beloved Bl. John Paul II's tomb. It was profoundly moving and enriching experience.

Emmett,
These are beautiful videos. This series about the Star of Bethlehem was aired in the U.S. during the Christmas seaon on Public Television so many people have seen it. I do hope you are OK since you haven't posted for awhile. I always look forward to reading your posts even though I don't comment. Looking forward to reading your next post soon.

Hi Anon,

Thanks! I'm almost finished a quite lengthy post that I've been caught up with for the last two weeks (I've been busy with work as well). It's a complex arguement, but I believe it is important - which is why I've spent so long on it. I just want to be able to do the subject justice. Don't worry - I'm not ready to give up blogging just yet!

This has been a popular documentary about the Star of Bethlehem it seems, but there are significant flaws that undo the the hypothesis, from dating the events to the astrological interpretation of the conjunctions to fitting what the Gospel of Matthew describes. You may enjoy considering those issues when viewing the documentary in the future:
