I've been coming to this site for years. I may have posted once a few years ago......not sure. I have learned a lot here. I sometimes need to take a break from sites like this. It's a heavy subject matter. It can be a bit depressing.......a lot of negative news, prophecy, doom and gloom. I am guilty of "chicken little syndrome" at times. The internet is so darn interesting and can take you to so many interesting places and to so many strange theories and people. It gives us confirmation bias at times. I like this site, but for my own sanity, I have to get away from it at times.....I also don't read every single comment (though I have learned a lot from all of the regulars here!) I'm guessing that many of us have a similar outlook. It may be a good time to detach from all the bad news and consider that God has created us for eternal joy with him! I don't do that enough. I worry about the future for myself and my wife and kids a lot. I don't thank God enough for them and place them in his hands and in his mercy enough. Mighty Righty, that was uncalled for......big time. I can relate to your frustration with the constant bad news. It can be a bit much. That isn't Rich's fault though ( or anyone else's). He is just dropping comments about what he finds interesting......I don't think he's trying to ruin your day. Take a break.....its the internet you can take it, leave it, or come back to it in a few weeks.....no big woop!

You've been a right jerk more than once in the comments section on this blog; you've out-and-out attacked people with total vitriol; do you honestly think anyone is going to heed any ideas you have at all when you go about it that way instead of having a civil debate?? I rarely post, but I've been following Emmett's blog for many years, and the comments section, too, and when I read your initial, frankly vile, post just now, I had to write something. You need to pump your brakes hard, and take a look in the mirror (I seem to recall something about picking up stones that is kind of essential to our faith). More than once you've accused people of being mentally ill, which is absolutely outlandish seeing as you don't even know the people you've done that to (a favourite tactic in the former Soviet Union I might add), and by using that as an insult you are also making light of mental illness and adding to the stigma unfairly attached to it in the process. I usually don't judge people, but seriously mate, you really need to do some self-reflection on how you're comporting yourself here (and not just under your "Mighty Righty" name, as I almost guarantee that you take pot-shots at people under anonymous as well, with certain turns of phrase giving you away, which is kind of slimy in itself). And, yes, there is a ton of speculation and bouncing ideas off each other here, which is not any surprise given the nature of the site. Maybe you need to do what a priest told me once about information that has errors in it, or that you aren't comfortable with; treat it like a pomegranate, eating what is good and spitting out what is distasteful to you. There's been a high profile conversion here in the UK. Gavin Ashenden, a prominent Anglican and indeed a Bishop, has converted to Catholicism and will be received into the Church on Sunday.
Gavin is fortunate enough to live in Shrewsbury RC Diocese, and he was approached by the Bishop there, Mark Davies, who asked him to consider converting because, as Davies told him, 'the Church needs you.' Mark Davies (along with Philip Egan of Portsmouth) is the best RC Bishop in the country for me. No surprise that he has twice as many priestly vocations than any other diocese. If Gavin lived in another diocese, particularly one to the north of Shrewwsbury, he'd still be an Anglican and would remain one forever!

Mark Davies (along with Philip Egan of Portsmouth) is the best RC Bishop in the country for me. No surprise that he has twice as many priestly vocations than any other diocese. If Gavin lived in another diocese, particularly one to the north of Shrewwsbury, he'd still be an Anglican and would remain one forever!

Sounds from this that his principal reason for converting is that he has come to be convinced by the quantity and ttruth of Marian apparitions. This is not what he said yesterday on the popular Anglican YouTube show, Anglican Unscripted!
It's a great blessing, in my view, that we've been joined by a man of insight, depth, courage, and intellectual and imaginative flair. All the better that he seems open to the Marian/prophetic elements too.
Let's hold him in our prayers and trust that God brings out the most of his many talents in the RC Church.

At Fatima, Our Lady said Russia will “error” if the country was not consecrated” to her heart by the Holy Father. The Fatima visionaries were so startled and confused about the frequent mentions of “Russia” (they had not even heard of the country) that they thought the Virgin Mary was speaking of a “very bad women”. To this day Russia’s central role in the apparitions at Fatima remains a great mystery.
